Cyprus (Greek: Κυπριακή) with the official name of the Republic of Cyprus (Greek: Κυπριακή Διμοκρατία) is an island country in the east of the Mediterranean Sea, whose capital is Nicosia, which is located in the center of the island and is considered its largest city. The country is divided into two parts, Northern Cyprus (Turkish part) and Greek part, where Greek, English and Turkish are official languages, Greeks, Orthodox and Turkish Cypriots are Muslims.

Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean after Sardinia and Sicily. Cyprus is one of the Mediterranean tourist destinations. Because of its strategic location, this island has been attacked by various empires throughout history, including the Hittites, Assyrians, Egyptians, Persians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Ottomans, and Arabs. Alexander the Great separated Cyprus from Iran in 333 BC.

Since 1974, when the Turkish army invaded northern Cyprus in response to the Greek coup, the island was divided into two parts. Cyprus is famous in the world because of its mild climate.
